The Kansas Medical Society Professionals’ Health Program serves physicians and physician assistants in a range of concerns that impact the lives of those caring for patients. Some of the concerns we address include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Mental Health/Emotional Health: included are stress, depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, grief, mental disorders, work-family balance, adjusting to transitions in the medical community.
- Physical Health: concerns with cognitive functions, diagnosis of cancer, arthritis, diabetes, aging, and other health issues that can affect the practice of medicine.
- Substance Use/Misuse/Addiction Disorders: assisting those whose substance use, whether illegal or legal substances, can result in significant problems in the work setting or personal life.
- Process Addictions: addictions in areas of compulsive gambling, sexual addictions, internet addiction, patterns of excessive spending and some eating disorders are included.
- Disruptive Behavior: behaviors that may or have resulted in a complaint by staff members, patients or administration. Disruptive behaviors do not always imply anger or aggression.
- Burnout: assist medical professional to understand the symptoms of burnout, how it effects stakeholders and ways to work through burnout.
- Wellness: promote medical professional overall well-being
- Educational Presentations: assist providing appropriate resources on issues pertaining to potential impairment
