The Importance of Engagement

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, the Kansas Medical Society Board of Trustees and the Medical Society of Sedgwick County came together in Wichita for an evening of connection, conversation, and collaboration. We are especially grateful to KMS President Dr. Estephan Zayat and his wife, Janane, for graciously hosting this memorable gathering.

With more than 125 attendees, the event brought together physicians, spouses, and healthcare advocates from across Kansas. It was inspiring to see longtime colleagues reconnect and new relationships form. We want to extend our deep appreciation to those that took time out of their busy schedules to attend.

We were honored to hear from Kansas Senate Majority Leader Chase Blasi, who emphasized the importance of engaging in the Kansas Medical Society and personally participating in advocacy. Effective advocacy is not limited to the legislative session. It is strengthened through ongoing communication, education, and engagement. Senator Blasi also recognized the often-unsung contributions of physicians' spouses and families. Their support plays a vital role in enabling physicians to serve their patients and communities, and we join in expressing our sincere appreciation for all they do.

Throughout the evening, attendees were reminded of the value of staying actively involved with both their county and state medical societies. These organizations ensure physicians have a united voice at the table and provide opportunities to help shape policies that impact the profession and the patients they serve.

We also discussed the important role of the Kansas Medical Political Action Committee (KaMPAC). KaMPAC supports candidates and elected officials who value physician input and are committed to thoughtful discussions on healthcare policy. By contributing to KaMPAC, physicians help ensure that the medical profession continues to have a voice in the conversations shaping healthcare across our state.

Partnership is the foundation of progress. Whether through advocacy, engagement, or support of our shared mission, your involvement strengthens our ability to represent physicians and advance healthcare across the state. We look forward to continuing this important work together and thank you for your continuing support of the Kansas Medical Society.

Advocacy Day is most effective when it's part of an ongoing relationship. Take a few minutes to identify your elected officials and introduce yourself as a local physician and healthcare resource.
